Ukrainian singer and songwriter Jamala performed a private live show for soldiers recovering from injuries in the war zone. The unique performance took place in front of the patients of the Kyiv rehabilitation center of the national RECOVERY network.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Jamala has been touring the world to raise funds for the Security and Defense Forces and for the humanitarian needs of Ukrainians. According to the singer, the meeting with the military at the RECOVERY Center in Kyiv was an opportunity to thank the guys and girls who are tirelessly fighting back the enemy. During her speech, Jamala emphasized the importance of the joint struggle for Ukrainian freedom and independence.
“It is very important to support people who have seen and experienced what we have not. And the stronger and closer this connection is, the more chances we have to revive and recover from all the pain and horror that the war has brought. But we need to help recover and support our defenders right now,” said Jamala, winner of the 2022 Atlantic Council Distinguished Artist Leadership Award and 2024 Shevchenko Prize winner.
The setlist of the special performance included hits from her albums «Крила» and «Подих», «Любити» (EP). She also performed “1944,” which in 2016 brought Ukraine victory at the Eurovision Song Contest. Before performing the song, the singer noted that only by remembering our history can we save ourselves.
